About the Joey O'Brien Memorial

Joey lost his battle with an aggressive form of blood cancer called Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia in June of 2005. He was diagnosed at age 16, and it took his life two days later. Our family started a foundation as a way to prevent future families from suffering the same loss and also a way to celebrate the life of Joey with friends and family each year.

The Joey O’Brien Memorial Golf Tournament, Foundation, and Courage Scholarship were then created. Joey was an avid golfer and worked in the summer at the local golf course, Brown’s Lake Golf Club. As we move into another year of hosting this great event, we have been fortunate enough to receive donations in excess of $700,000. All of these generous donations have been given to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and the Joey O’Brien Courage Scholarship recipients. With your support, we hope to reach $1,00,000 in donations for childhood cancer research and scholarship awards to students who have overcome cancer related adversity in their lives.

We are eternally grateful for all the generosity our guests have shown. Through this, we hope to aid in the fight to eliminate childhood cancer, while keeping Joey’s joy and kindness alive.

All proceeds go to leukemia research at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and the Joey O’Brien Courage Scholarship Program for Burlington and Catholic Central High Schools.
